It all started on December 27th when “Coller la petite” hit-maker Franko took to Facebook to derogate the winners of MTV Africa Music Awards , presumably the greatest achievement for an artist in Africa. The rapper intimated that there is no financial reward accompanied with the trophy. In a seemingly taunting manner, he earlier on dedicated his “Disque D’or” to the MTV Africa Music Awards.  He made use of the Jovi-coined word “Mongshung” to describe the award.

Jovi’s new hit “Mongshung”is #1 Hip Hop tune on Trace Urban.

December 28th,  Stanley Enow , the sole Cameroonian winner of the coveted MTV awards took to Facebook and posted Jovi’s latest tune “Mongshung” commending the song as one of his favorite this year 2016.

This post has astonished a myriad of fans and pundits who have known both rappers as foes.

Jovi and Stanley Enow have had a rugged relationship in the past characterized by vocal jabs in songs and beefs most often dramatized by social media. Worth-noting, Stanley has always shown respect and utter appreciation for Jovi’s music from day one .

Jovi on his part showed Stanley Enow unflinching support when he was nominated for MTV Africa Music Awards , rallying his fans to vote for him. A stir of happiness and show of approval has moved across social media for Stanley’s move. To some, it’s a show of unity , humility and maturity.

About 30 minutes after historic post , “Ca sort comme ca sort” rapper Maahlox has come into the scene with a baleful and provocative comment referring to Stanley Enow as an “ass-licker” meaning he is just a brown-nose who is trying to flatter Jovi with an intention of gaining something. From the comments on the post, Maahlox seems  to be enraged. I don’t know why.

He informs Jovi in an idiomatic manner to tell Stanley to be careful because while trying to go down and lick, the crown might fall from his head. Interesting !

This has been the acme of trouble and heated controversy. It’s quite doubtful why Maahlox will throw such a jab at Stanley Enow. Is he creating a vicious cycle.  Check it below;

There’s substantial amount of evidence of hatred and proof that Franko and Maahlox are teaming up to devalue Stanley Enow and his achievements.

However,  in every hip hop game there must be “beefs” to instil interest and buzz. Remember Biggy and 2 Pac, Jay-Z & Nas,  Drake & Meek Mill .

Let’s wait for the next move.

The speedy rise and rise of urban music in Cameroon from 2010 witnessed the starting up of a plethora of record labels.

Albeit some were simple Facebook pages with virtual CEOs, others made an indelible impression .
2011/2012, MUMAK took the industry by storm introducing a cream of talented music powerhouses like Jovi , Magasco, Mr Elad and Reniss managed by Jules Nya.
Friends Jules Nya and Jovi were indispensable visionaries who turned creative imagination into concrete evidence.
“Don 4 kwat” released in 2011 was phenomenal, blazing a trail and igniting a new era.
The entire “H.I.V” Album by Jovi was a remarkable revolution in Cameroon. This ended the era of Krotal, Ak’sang Grave, etc.
The label was considerably propitious, sparking a beam of hope for the industry.

The new concept of branding , gorilla online /offline marketing and a different level of video making took the industry to another dimension. February 16th made the magic with his visuals.
The industry was shocked when
Jovi and Jules Nya announced they were parting ways in 2013 after thrilling Cameroonians with a sizzling music. The reason for their severing of ties remained unknown.
Jovi and old business partner/ artist Rachel Applewhite started New Bell Music . Their relationship started in India where Jovi went to study audio engineering.
Reniss, Jovi’s long-time protegee from Mambanda remained fidel to his boss and continued working with him.

Jovi later recruited Pascal, Shey, Tata and Tilla to join New Bell Music.
Jules Nya relocated to Douala and continued doing music business under MUMAK imprint. He moved to Douala with Mr Elad whom he brought into MUMAK charmed by his incredible singing and music producing ingenuity back in Kumba. Magasco was still under Jules Nya’s management.

Things became stale when the “Line loba” hitmaker Magasco on “Hello” CRTV presented a new manager, a certain Barrister and proceeded to shoot the video of “Kumba market” without the consent of his boss Jules Nya , the MUMAK label head. The video did not even carry any MUMAK tag.
Magasco was hasty and antsy to reach his goal which let him to release a video that was massively criticised to be mediocre , way below expectation. Magasco had a misunderstanding with Jules. Magasco caught the attention of many music investors following his impressive releases under MUMAK and collaboration with Jovi.
Magasco was later signed to Pit Bacardi’s label Empire Company after the label dropped X Maleya.
Mr Elad dropped a sizzling tune titled “Chakara” in 2013 and still under Jules’ management clinched a remix with Nigerian superstar Iyanya. The seemingly fruitful business relationship between the two later turned soar , Mr Elad disclosed to the public he was no longer working with Jules Nya. He seemed dissatisfied with his business relationship with Jules.
MUMAK, a house that inspired Cameroonian aspiring artists and gave them the dream became inhabited by one man Jules Nya.
2015, Tilla was later fired from New Bell Music by Jovi.

Tilla’s severing of ties with Jovi’s New Bell Music sparked tremendous controversy in the urban music sphere. She took to Facebook on Jovi’s birthday saying she was no longer  affiliated to the label. Contrary to what fans and the media perceived that Tilla quit the label, she was indeed fired by her boss Jovi. She seemingly proposed a money-raising project to Jovi,  which met a strong resistance and misunderstanding. The talented female rapper made this shocking revelation on a popular radio show. Her former boss Jovi told her she was back to square one,  an utterance which influenced her tune “Back to square one”. The “godmother” is however still basking in fame following her release “Girls nova ndem” .

jovi

Here is an excerpt of her declaration.

I’m someone who is very entrepreneurial. I just gave alot of ideas …so many business ideas but apparently this idea , the label didnt want. I had it all planned out. so I spoke with Jovi. I had this project . I was actually very excited because I thought the label will be very happy and proud of me that I did something. It was going to raise over 2 million frs and was going to help buy books too for some of the schools. Besides that it’s the profit we would’ve made. So I was very confident the label will be very proud of me but to my greatest surprise that wasn’t the case. I guess they thought someone wrote the project for me or I wasn’t loyal or I went to some other people or something. I must say there was a misunderstanding, like a misjudgment. He probably was very quick to judge me because the project was that good and I was talking about millions . It probably seemed like I didnt come out with it . He underestimated me. So he was like are you sure about this. I said yea. We can do this for real. He is like … so you are not using the logo right. I was very confused like why will I not use the logo. I’m bringing the project to the label and the label can do what they want. Our manager was Sulja at that time. He’ll talk with him. I said okay cool. So we spoke about it and he said let’s see how this thing is going to work. I was very confident about it. The next day at about 11pm I was sleeping. He called me and he actually told me this. I have some his words. I still remember how he said like u know about what we talked about I spoke with my partner. His partner is Rachel and we both didn’t agree with it. So sorry . We don’t want to work with you anymore . You are free to go. We don’t have any problem. I feel like you are ready to go. You sound ready. I said yea I’m ready. He said it like five times. You are free to go. Now is back to square one. He used those words. That made me write that song. He said I was back to square one. It’s over. Thats the truth. I didnt quit. I was fired. I was just trying not to raise any fire . I waited for like a week but I saw that it was serious . It was actually happening. I was like where is this from .That was when I said to myself I can do this. Okay lemme move on now. That was when I posted it on Facebook. It was like a week after. Every one thought I just decided to quit on his birthday but that wasn’t the case. I didnt think it was his birthday. I was just so surprised. He misunderstood me. He actually thought I was working with someone else. Like someone wrote that project. But that was just me sitting in my room brainstorming and writing stuffs. I guess that was the mistake. I felt very sad. But I said to myself it’s cool.

Music pundits and fans have been impatiently waiting for 48hrs to elapse and here we are on the highly anticipated “JoviActionFriday“.  Jovi took to Twitter this morning  only to call Magasco “Ngong dog” , an insultive slang maybe to tell Magasco he barks but can’t bite as alluded in his song “Don 4 kwat”.

Earlier on, Magasco posted on Facebook that he won’t associate himself with violence but to keep making Cameroon proud.

Expectations were so high. Jovi whetted our appetite just for this? OMG!

follow!

@PitBaccardi I gave you 48Hrs to produce an apology from that dog of yours Magasco and you thought I was joking with you.”

“Today people have to know how fake these two people are —> @PitBaccardi and this “ngong dog” Magasco.”

Jovi has been expecting a video apology to surface on social media today but nothing seems forthcoming. This definitely the commencement of an intriguing drama.
