What will artists not do to generate hype and draw attention. Cameroonian artist Tity -P has not only remixed P-Square’s “Chop ma money” hit, he has also translated it. Yes people, translated it. After lacing the song with some coupé-décalé- style  singing, the guy goes ahead to translate the chorus into French. I know you’re  all eager to get the translation. Well, you’ll only have to listen to the track below. If this guy was seeking hype, he will surely get tons of  it. In a competition between this version ,the original and the Akon- featured remix, I think this one comes in second after the original. Nice try Mr. Tity-P but when the hype fades we’ll still be expecting more of your own hits.

From Pyramid Productions Cameroon comes this new upcoming US based Cameroonian gospel artist with her just released debut musical album ‘True Inspiration’. Born in the south west province, Tiana Bibish Elad commonly known as Elad Christina Bibish hails from the city of Kumba and is also University of Buea alumni, a song writer, composer and producer of music and movies. Her style is unique, inviting and there is plenty of variety and breath in her music, most of which can be called gospel pop, merengue and techno.

“True Inspiration” was officially released on February 19th 2012 in the U.S and since then it has been a hit on most radio stations in Los Angeles and California where the album is making waves. Being an accomplished entertainer of radio talk shows, stand-up comedy and a screen actress, she has decided to take an upbeat gospel musical style which she believes incorporates every age-group. She uses her music as a meeting point between those who listen to the music and the message of the music.

Tiana is one of those Cameroonian gospel artists who are trying to reinvent the gospel music and set up a new pace and tone for a stand-out gospel music revival where young people will not be left out. Consenting to her calling which she describes as a God timely calling, she goes ahead to write and compose several songs with her brother Sean D Elad who is also known in the Cameroonian entertainment business for his writing and composing skills especially after his participation in the “ Concours de la chanson in early 2011.

Back then Tiana used to be well known and loved by fans that had the privilege to have followed and listened to her programs over Lake site Radio Kumba. Her unique voice and style in running her programs and broadcasting the news won her over to the fans that still miss her. Deeply rooted in traditional choir from NewLayout youths Kumba, Rose of Sharon Singers and others etc, and interwoven with the renaissance and vibrant color, not leaving out the texture of world’s gospel music, Tiana has put her music in a personal context to define and demonstrate her melodic finesse and positive standing with God as she tells the world through her music

“ I am changed, the Blood of Jesus Washed me Clean”

Her music is available on several online stores including itunes.apple.com, emusic.com and goggle music.com. For her videos, they are still to be made public, but  some videos of her performances of most of her songs can be found online too. Here is ‘Just Move’ and ‘Sing a Song’

According to some press reports, another American superstar will be in Cameroon for a concert. Eminem is said to arrive Cameroon for an April 28 concert in Yaounde . Apparently, this information was first made known by Alain Dexter and Master Ivo during the just ended Planete Star Video Music Awards. Petit-Pays who is said to be the opening act for the show is quoted  as  having confirmed this story. Well, in the light of recent concerts  by superstars like Sean Paul and soon Akon,we are inclined to believe while hoping the story is true. If it turns out to be so, then it is really comforting to know that Cameroon has become an inviting destination for superstars and our concert promoters are doing good work.  I am sure Eminem fans would love a live rendition of hits like “Not afraid” and “Love the way you lie”. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Since they burst unto the scene, Cameroonian hiphop duo Sissongho  MC  have stood out as unique. This uniqueness was first manifest in their language of choice- francanglais– which made it easy for the public to identify with them and sing along. Their hit “je bock” is a good example. But now it is evident that their  uniqueness extends even to their videos. The  video to the song “Je ne refuse pas” is to say the least unusual in a nice way. Its laid- back nature and even their performance makes it pretty likable if you’re a loyal hiphop fan.Watch for yourselves.

It is undeniable,a wind of change is blowing across the Cameroonian music industry as far as music videos are concerned. When one turns on the T.V now, it is  no longer easy to keep count of the number of Cameroonian top -quality music videos  being screened even on international music channels. It is even more surprising to notice that these great videos are those of hiphop artists whose music was once fiercely resisted as if straight from the bowels of hell. This change is in part due to the rise of great talented music video directors like Feb 16,William Nsai and Napster Kallash just to name a few. Spurred by the competitive spirit of Cameroonian hiphop artists, these music video directors have been given the free reins to do their thing. However, while we salute this change, it is worthnoting that this revolution hasn’t reached all the nooks and cranies of the industry. Mainstream artists like bikutsi and makossa musicians are still to jump into the bandwagon. Despite their gargantuan followings ,the Petit Pays and K-Tinos just to name a few are still to latch on to this momentum. Such a move will only enable them consolidate their established reputations and carve a nitch for themselves on the world music scene because this phenomenon isn’t only true of Cameroon. Even in other African countries, the music video revolution is being driven mainly by hiphop artists. Why? What are the others waiting for? I for one will be extremely eager to watch the video of Petit Pays’ next hit if  I hear it was directed by Feb 16 for example. I am positive such a video will make its way to Trace. Less I forget, despite the quality of the music videos nowadays, there is need for them to be moored in our landscape i.e use our landmarks and realities when shooting their videos.
