23 year old Buea based upcoming gospel solo artist Precious registered under Track Zone Recordz had some time off her studio works  for a one on one chat with Nexdim Empire on her upcoming album entitled  ‘Thanks a Million’ which will be released come March 2012.

Follow

NexDim: Who is Precious?

P: I am a final year  student of the University of Buea studying Educational Psychology, I come from a family of 3 all girls and am a proud Bayang from Tinto – Eyang.

NexDim: What got you into gospel music?

P: Lets say my background, i grew up in isolation, i was always alone and that way i would rather sing than talk. As i was growing up i joined the Apostolic church in form 2 and later joined the choir where i enjoyed singing alot. Then my desire to know God the more really pushed me into singing and most of my songs now i did them way back then.

NexDim: Tell us about your upcoming album

P: The title of the album would be ‘Thanks a Million’ it has  7 songs of appreciation to God to have extended the privilege on. First of all there is Breathe on me’ which says the breathe of god takes away all human sufferings, then there is ‘You are just a prayer away’  ‘No limit which is an American praise, and the rest of the three are in the bayang dialect – ‘Two ye ka’ ( come and lets worship God), Ndu va ka’ ( As your praise goes up the glory comes down), and ‘Ye ma apu mboh yi’ ( No man no dey like God).

NexDim: What are some of the challenges you faced during this period?

P: Well to be honest with you it hasn’t really been easy but I thank God for DJ Subzee of Track Zone Recordz who doubles as my manager he has been a source of inspiration to me all this while, but the biggest challenge has been with finances, I thank God we have gone so far already almost done with the studio works all thats left is the jackets for the CDs and some others.

NexDim: Who do you admire most in the world of music?

P: I have 2 people i really admire, the first is Sinach who is the leader of Pastor Chris’s choir and Nigeria’s Lara George thats in Africa, then for the western musicians i do admire Cece Winans and Darlene Chzecks of Hill Song Musics.

NexDim: Thanks miss Precious

P: Oh you definitely welcome

The music industry is undoubtedly built on an intangible commodity called inspiration. This might give the impression that artists who are the main actors have a carte blanche to do as they like.Unfortunately, this is not the case because they depend on another entity called the public that has its whims and caprices. It decides when to love you and when to dispose of you. This component thus places a constraint on artists and they can no longer  change as they want because the public might get confused. This situation is sure not fair to the artists but thats the way it is.This observation pushes one to ask the question;which brand of music does  the talented Achalle do?

The 2004 winner of the National song competition,2006 Star2 demain winner,2008 Kora award nominee has shuttled from genre to genre over the past few years. His post-Star 2 Demain release “Bunya” left audiences feeling  that impression that he was going folklore. And then his smash hit “Feeling insecured” showcased his pop-crooner potential and the public taught “yes,he’s found his niche” and yearned for more. Surprise, surprise, Achalle seems to have taken the gospel road not only as a  backup vocalist for some gospel artists but also as a solo artist. These transitions, far from highlighting his artistic range, have left fans and pundits perplexed as to the artist’s real penchant.

It has equally overstretched  and weakened his punch as artist.uncertainty now looms where certainty where reigned as to his genre. Is he folkore, pop or gospel?Despite the immensity of an artist’s talent,he/she can’t be a jack -of- all -trades because contemporary music  and music lovers are much more exigent. And very few if not no artist, even with the input of legendary producers, can engage in such musical gymnastics with the sound resounding success which is what artists seek.Artists can sure explore other genres but more as an icing on their traditional cake. But 360 shifts from one genre are,to say the least, confusing.

As a pure lyricist cut from the same cloth as Lecrea, Flame and Sho Baraka, Tha M.o.G honed his abilities in ciphers and hangouts all over his native Bamenda town;

“I’ve been rhyming basically for 4 years. Rhyming for me was just like how some people play basketball for the fun of it. It’s an everyday activity.”

“He’s just young and hungry,” many people will say. I also have a large vocabulary. Faith is what i have  been living on since i started taking rap music seriously in 2007. In junior high school or lower six,I rapped  for fun while turning to my books to keep myself afloat. After being challenged by a friend to take rapping seriously,i started doing a couple of work outs and seeking for advice. Basically I was not into Holy Hip Hop. But u know God has his ways. After I completely surrendered my life to Christ, I hooked up with a friend and we went to bible school. There, we started working together. Then I started hearing about the cross movement and lecrea…”

IRMA – Pure gold

Posted In: Art, Gospel, Hype, NEWS, Profile by nchanji

In today’s world of high- tempo music marked by the recent resurgence of disco and techno, it is rare to find a budding artist who has the courage and faith to invest in something as unique and demanding as acoustic music. Driven by her talent, Cameroonian- born Irma has already embroidered her name in music history.Born and raised in Douala, Cameroon,Irma developed an early penchant for music and began strumming her fathers acoustic guitar as well as take piano lessons at the tender age of 7. At 15,Irma moved to France and continued harnessing the talent bubbling inside her on the sidelines of her studies.Like light that cannot be hidden,Irma’s talent finally   introduced her to the world when she began receiving positive feedback after posting some of her videos on the net.The hype finally culminated in August 2008 when 416 internet users, through the fan-funded music label My Music Company , pumped in the required 70,000 euros to produce her first album. This fit was achieved in just two days. After recording for three weeks with Lenny Kravitz’s longtime producer,Henry H,the young songwriter was courageous enough  to re-record the album in Paris in a bit to get a much more personal album. With a catalogue of  sultry compositions such as  “Letter to the lord” and ” I know’  which have become hit songs, the young guitarist rose to the promise of her online demos and enchanted music lovers with the release of her album entitled “Letter to the lord”.It  is a testament to her talent as an artist and and also to her  convictions as a person.Even a cursory appraisal of her music reveals her uniqueness. Her vocals  make her soul leanings evident. Her rhythm is a balanced mix of soul and faint doses of r’n'b. There is a certain sincerity and subtlety in her heavily-acoustic compositions that make her stand out.  This far,if the fact that she has already  featured alongside established musicians like Diams and others is anything to go by,then Irma is poised for musical greatness.

With a huge following already gathering, the challenge for this new star will be to emphasis and polish her uniqueness so that she  can last more than a life time in the ever-evolving world of music.
