Cameroonian-born Basketball player Joel Embiid has been named NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP)2022-2023.
He is the first player to win the Kia NBA MVP Award with the 76ers since Allen Iverson in the 2000-01 season.
The 29-year-old, born and raised in Yaoundé, averaged 33.1 points to win his second straight scoring title, averaged 10.2 rebounds and tied a career high with 4.2 assists per game.
Embiid was discovered at a basketball camp in Yaounde by NBA veteran Luc Mbah a Moute.
Mbah a Moute persuaded Embiid’s parents to let him move to Florida, and helped enroll him at Montverde Academy (Mbah A Mouté’s Alma mater ).
Embiid played 28 games in his lone season at Kansas before leaving for the NBA.
