ANDRE ONANA NAMES TWO ICONS THAT INSPIRED HIM: MANUEL NEUER AND MUHAMMAD ALI 

Interviewer: Andre, who inspired you the most in your football career ?

“Being a goalkeeper and being a modern goalkeeper you have to look up to many goalkeepers. If I have to choose one, it will be Manuel Neuer . When they played the 2014 World Cup and won in Brazil. When I watching the World Cup, I already found someone I wanna look like. He made me think differently” 

Andre Onana stated that he looked up to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, as a role model for building a strong mindset and philosophy. 

Interviewer: Is he a good role model ? 

“Yes. His mindset. It was not something easy. He had to pass through a lot of difficulties and he was only looking at the positive side, the positive parts. He was very positive and that is what I like… I’ve always said that it cannot rain forever, the sun will shine. And yet the sun will not shine forever, the rain will come. So just find a good balance, especially when you are a football player or an athlete; bad days and better days will come.

 It’s not because you are having a bad day that you think it will never change. It will change but it’s not because you are having a good day that it will stay forever.”

“Everything is temporary. You just have to know how to manage that. When you are in a bad mood, take a positive. When you are in a good mood, take a positive. Just enjoy yourself and be happy, be with the people you love and always stay positive”
