The stakes in Group I could change as Fifa is presently investigating whether Togo used an ineligible player in their 2-0 home win over Cameroon on June 9th. The Lions could stand to gain the 3 points should Togo be found culpable. The Togolese federation has not discussed the identity of their ineligible player – although Alaixys Romao also picked up two yellow cards in qualifying before playing in the Lome victory against Cameroon . Cameroon will therefore qualify if they draw the match against Libya in September.
Fifa rules on player ineligibility
Article 55 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code states:
- If a player takes part in an of?cial match despite being ineligible, his team will be sanctioned by forfeiting the match and paying a minimum ?ne of CHF 6,000
