Jovi LeMonstreWhat is a brand?

style=”color: #000000;”>A brand is your unique value to the prospective fans or consumers.Your brand is a promise that you make to your fans, to everyone who listens to your music and interacts with you. A brand is really what makes you unique, what you can offer that separates you from every other artist especially now that the industry is quite competitive. Branding is one of the most powerful tools for an artist to be successful in his career. It is what attracts consumers. Petit Pays has succeeded to create a unique brand which makes consumers rush for his albums after release. What makes you different?

What does this mean for musicians? Your brand is the TRANSFORMATION, the results, the experience that people have when listening to YOUR music.

Most musicians do not have a brand. They try to hard to sound and look like other artists or they compare themselves to other artists.

What makes you unique as an artist ? Here are some questions that can help you:

1) What transformation or experience do you offer to the people who are listening to your music?

2) What value does your music have in society? What benefit will people get from listening to your music?

3) What positive effect does your music have on others? Is this effect unique or are there other artists whose music has the same effect on your target audience?

Remember your brand has to be desirable, deliverable, and differentiating. People have to want what your music can offer. You have to be able to deliver that unique value to your fans, and what you offer has to be unique from other musicians.

Singing about sweet sweet love is a common concept that is likely to succeed but it all depends on the perspective .You can transform the idea and tell it from a different perspective, or tighten up your wordplay to create a new take on common colloquialisms. Did you hear an artist call a car “”Jap””? There are panoply of names referring to “”car”” in pidgin. You can go the other way.Work on your artistry.

The brand promises certain benefits (in this case your music promises to be good, unique, intriguing, have interesting metaphors, catchy hooks, etc.) delivers on these promises, and the consumer begins to form an image in their mind about said brand.

Proudly Cameroonian is the feel

ing now amongst many with the nomination of four Cameroonian artists in 03 categories for the prestigious pan-African Kora Awards, 2012 edition, billed for Cote d’Ivoire this year. Sultry singer Charlotte Dipanda and Bikutsi waist – winding goddess Lady Ponce have both been nominated in the Best female Central African artist category for their tracks “Coucou” and “Secouer secouer” respectively. Boyband X Maleya have on their part been nominated in the best African group category for “Tchokolo” and N’Lauretta has received a nod in the best female gospel artist category for her track “Hommage à Jesus”. Before you start criticising and saying who and who are not present, it is worth pointing out that only tracks released between May 1 2o11 and October 10 2012 were considered. Forget not too, only 144 artists and groups were selected out the 400 t0 500 files received. So maybe the artist(s) you are rooting for is in the rejected lot. What ever the case, a lot of hype and visibility are needed for an artist to be taken note of and nominated. The award ceremony will take place on December 29, 2012 at Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan. Cameroonians should vote and vote if they want our colours to fly boldly in Cote d’Ivoire come award day. Congrates to our four nominees and courage to the disappointed. Who amongst all these Cameroonian nominees return with a Kora award like Macase in 2003?

Things are no longer rosy for

Eto’o and his Russian club side Anzhi Makhachkala. Yesterday they registered their second defeat in as many matches, going down 2-1 to Rubin Karzan. This defeat follows that registered against Liverpool in the Europa league. No amount of hustling from Cameroonian striker and Anzhi captain Samuel Eto’o could change the tide of defeat. While this cannot be the basis for any talk of a crisis, it has certainly tainted the feel – good atmosphere that reigned amongst fans after they went top of the log. This defeat equally means Eto’o and club have been relegated to second place in the league classifications.

/>Famed Cameroonian comedian Dave K. Moktoï known for speaking French with an American accent has announced a come-back show to take place on November 18,2012 at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde. The comic made this known yesterday the 25th during his stopover on CRTV”s morning show Hello. After a decade long absence from Cameroon, the comedian promises a hilarious communion with his fans since he left for the U.S. Fans should be prepared for a stand-up kind of comedy instead of the short plays he was most famous for while in Cameroon. It”s a new look Dave K. as he dons a dread-like hairdo. Interested persons should know that his comedy isn”t cheap and should prepare FCFA 10,000 for an entry. Now that”s not funny, is it? lol
