The slow but steady stream of departures has finally resulted in what every feared:the end of the Cameroonian success story called Macase. After close to two decades at the top, the musical group (Kora Nominees 2003) finally split. Following the departure of figureheads like singers Corry and Blick Bassy, rumour was rife that the end was in sight. The drop in the number of get-togethers and the pursuit of solo carriers by some of the members augured a possible split which has turned out to be true. Although one of the group members,Ruben Binam, has been quoted as saying that the members will still work together even if it isn’t under the Macase banner, this is an unfortunate situation for Cameroonian music which has once again lost a fine gathering of artistic minds whose talent echoed far beyond Cameroonian and African shores.
