Cameroonian artist flees country due to intimidation

It would seem that the rumours were true after all: ace musician and social critic Lapiro de Mbanga has fled the country. For a while now speculation was rife that the artist and his family had fled the country, to take up residence in the U.S.A. Despite the consistency of these speculations, it was difficult to verify their credibility. However a September 5 facebook post from General Valsero, with whom he collaborated on the highly – controversial track “démissionerhow to get a divorceg>” upon release, seems to confirm theses reports. In his words, General Valsero says “… l'artiste lapiro de mbanga est en ce moment en cavale avec toute sa famille il croule sous les menaces téléphonique et les intimidations….” (translation – … the artist Lapiro de Mbanga is presently on the run with his entire family he  has been incessantly threatened over the phone and intimidated..). Other sources have reported that the artist has been granted asylum in the U.S. A book detailing his trial and the reasons for his exile is said to be due for release soon. Even after serving a suspiciously – unfair jail term,  “Ndingaman” seems set for a new episode in his recently – roller coaster life. Whatever the case, it evident that his exile is a major loss for the Cameroonian music scene.
