Cameroonian footballers have apparently developed a thing for being on screen. After Samuel Eto’o‘s appearance in an  X -Maleya video ,it is now the turn of Jean Makoun. The midfielder features in Tity-P‘s video release “Jeunesse star”. Although the player doesn’t utter a note all through the song his presence will surely trigger some buzz for the song. Tity-P is supposed to be a hip-hop artist but in this song he rather explores coupé-décalé. This release is a prelude to his upcoming album entitled “Vise plus haut”. Even by Cameroonian standards,this is a bad attempt at coupé-décalé. See for yourselves.

Nexdim: Hello OJ  how you doing?

OJ: Am doing just fine, thanks

Nexdim: Tell us about your career as a football player.

OJ: Well talking about my career is a long story but I’d definitely need to start from somewhere. Ok back here in Cameroon I used to play with Cammark in Kumba, I later went to 1st division in Baffoussam under Fovu du Baham. After Fovu i switched to Tiko United and later moved to Kadji sport Academy, fortunately for me just after 10 months in Kadji I was selected to go for training session in Liverpool in England from where I was sent to the Spanish Real Madrid.

After my training sessions,I returned home and started my pursuit in France Rouen, moved to Switzerland where I played for 5years, again moved to FC Sion, then  Sport Reunir Delemont, then Neuchatel Xamax, then FC Thourn which was the last team I played for in Switzerland. From there I went to GFCO Ajaccio played for 2years, then  Eviom Thonon Gaillard, then Redstar FC, U.J Alfortville, J.A. Drancy and finally CMS Oissel where I currently play for  in France. You  see I told you its a very long story.

Nexdim: Quite long indeed, okay what are some of the difficulties you encounter as a football player?

OJ: Football naturally is a difficult game, imagine there are 30 players in grand total but only 11 are actually chosen to play in a match. Also the problem of age in the sense footballers have from the age of  19 to 34,  when you get to attain a certain age say from 30, you have to start thinking of retiring from the game. Then there are instances where you may face resentment from a coach, just naturally,the two of don’t just have a click, this makes the game to become difficult.

Nexdim: What can you say about Cameroonian football?

OJ: First of all I have noticed remarkably that football out of Cameroon is very different. From the time  I was still playing in Cameroon till now the country has registered so much progress, there are many clubs and  football schools now. But when it comes to professionalism since I have played in France for so many years Cameroon has too much to do in terms of  professional football.

Nexdim: What do you think can be done to improve Cameroon’s football?

OJ: I’d say those in charge should do all in their powers to ensure that all the equipments needed for playing a successful game are provided and when I talk about equipments I don’t just mean providing  jerseys and boots for the players, am talking about training equipments, it  will go a long way to encourage the players.

Nexdim: Any other thing you are involved in besides football?

OJ: Well, besides playing football, I coach the under 11. You see football has so much passion when you start it but at a certain stage, you begin to lose that passion and right now the passion I had back then is no longer there. But with time after my coaching sessions I strongly believe my passion a as coach will definitely come by.

Nexdim: Your role model?

OJ: Real Madrid’s Christiano Ronaldo, he has his own qualities as a hardworking player, though with his own faults too.

Nexdim: What do you like eating most?

OJ: My favorite is Rice, I can eat it like a whole year, (he laughs)

Nexdim: What are your hobbies?

OJ: My biggest hobby is watching a football match, oh gush ! I can’t afford to miss a tournament, then I like listening to music especially when am driving.

Nexdim: A word of advise to all those who have dreams of a pursuit in football.

OJ: Well I want to use this platform to encourage all the youths interested in football to work hard and keep on dreaming for as long as there is life, there is hope, so all they should do is keep on dreaming and not sleeping on their dreams but working towards them.

According to media reports, former Canon and Sedan man Marcus Mokake is on his way to Qatar club Al-Kharaitayah. After his contract with French- side Sedan ended last June, the 30 year old has been clubless. Pending the routine medical check, everything seems set for the combative Cameroonian to fly to Qatar. If the deal sails through this could be a good opportunity for the player to relaunch his career and why not earn more call-ups to the national team. Go Marcus.

As the January 31st dateline approaches , Cameroonian players are amongst those making  news. While Yaya Banana has completed his move to  French club Sochaux , goalkeeper Idriss Carlos is rumoured to be a Malaga target although his current club Espanyol Barcelone is said to be reluctant to  let him go. Another Cameroonian Brice Owona   who plays for Swiss side F.C St. Gall is said to be in talks with his club for a mutual end to his contract. The former Cotonsport man was embroiled in a rape scandal that landed him in jail for over a week. On the side lines of these potential moves, Vincent Bikana who plays for Neuchatel Xamax is at the centre of a fake-age scandal. The player is accused of having changed his age. The player has consistently refuted these cliams as baseless. Who said the road to football stardom was easy?

As the January transfer window heats up, Cameroonian players are equally at the forefront of speculations and rumours. While Schalke man Matip has extended his contract with the German side to 2016,  Ajax midfielder Eyong Enow is rumoured to be a Fulham target. As usual, Indomitable Lions’ captain Samuel Eto’o isn’t spared by the speculators. The player  is said to be heading Stateside. Reports,echoed by reputed -Spanish sports magazine Marca, suggest MLS giants New York Redbulls and especially L.A Galaxy are amongst those ready to sign the player . The player’s Russian club F.C Anzhi is said to be demanding no less than 50 million euros for their forward. Meanwhile,rising- defense star Yaya Banana is expected to leave Esperance de Tunis for French club Sochaux if the two parties come to an agreement.

Indomitable Lions’ captain and famed F.C Anzhi Makachkala striker Samuel Eto’o is at the centre of the ongoing crisis in Cameroonian football. His unfortunate situation is epitomised by his 15 -match suspension from the national team after the players’ refusal to defend the national colours in a friendly against Algeria. It is worthnoting the player has over the years been embroiled in some controversies that have put the player in the headlines but have severely scarred “Eto’o the brand“. Since he blossomed at Mallorca,the Cameroonian joined the select club of football stars with considerable marketing potential. But unlike other western players,the striker’s star power wasn’t maximised. Apart from some Puma ads,Eto’o is yet to land himself multimillion- dollar ads from mutlibillion- dollar companies. What then is my point?  With a slur of controversies and bad rep,wouldn’t it be good for the player to step away from the national team in an attempt to repair his image? These controversies are only hurting his image. Yeah,what about his patriotic spirit? What about it? If you’re often accused of being part of the problem somewhere,shouldn’t you step aside just to see if ? Patriotism isn’t blind. It is practical and realistic.He has done so much for Cameroon already but has he done enough for his brand? Samuel Eto’o has reached a point in his career where he has nothing to prove but must protect his brand less he inadvertently puts a ghastly dent on it. A solidarity or protest match(whatever the appellation) from idle feet cannot repair a tarnished brand and legacy. If Eto’o continues trying to stay in the corridors of Cameroonian football, he might be doing a great disservice to the Eto’o brand which only he can best polish by officially taking his final bow from the Lions’ stage. Latest reports suggest that Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto’o won’t appeal against his 15 match suspension.These reports quote the player’s lawyer Gabriel Kaldjob as saying that the player has asked him not to appeal against the disciplinary committee’s decision.While this has come as a surprise to many who taught the captain was going to act otherwise,others have been quick to point out that Article 55 sub 2 of the internal  rules governing the Lions makes it possible for the Fecafoot president and the Minister of sports to appeal against decisions taken by the disciplinary committee.Whether this is the final chapter of the botched- Algeria friendly is still unknown but speculation is rife that we are in for more twist and turns.

List of 2011 nominees for African player of the year and best 2011 player in the continent has just been released after deliberations by the 53 members of the African footballl federation, CAF. The award which is out to recompense those who have distinguished themselves in contributing to the growth and development of football in the continent takes into consideration their performances  from the month of January to November. Africa’s football giant Cameroon grapped four nominations- Samuel Eto’o (Cameroun – Anzhi Makhachkala) for Player of the year 2011, Banana Yaya (Cameroun – Esperance Sportive de Tunis) for Best player of the year 2011, Alioum Neant for Best Referee and Best Female Team goes to Cameroon. The winners will be known on December 22, in a gala organized at the banquet hall Stade House in  Accra, Ghana which will be hosting for the third time.

Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o has been slammed a 15-match ban by Cameroon football federation FECAFOOT. Samuel Eto’o has been blamed for frequent money issue disputes in the national team especially during the 4 nation tournament in Marrakech. He led a strike demanding unpaid dues and influenced the players to boycot a friendly against Algeria.

The striker  has two weeks to appeal the ban which would rule him out of a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tie in Guinea Bissau on February 29 next year and 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Democratic Republic of Congo and Libya in June. 

The Algerian coach is quite happy with the 15-match ban which cost Algeria $1 million.

Eyong Enoh has equally been banned for 2 matches and Assou Ekoto fined $2000 for failing to respect the invitation at the Marrakech Tournament.

Cameroon’s goal-scoring prodigy Samuel Eto’o was once again on target for his Russian club. The attacker scored at the 89 minute from the penalty spot in their 2-1 defeat of Russian- league giants CSKA Moscow. This was during a  league playoff match between the two sides.With this goal, Eto’o has helped his team climb to sixth on the classification table and better its chances of qualifying for the UEFA champions league next year.
