The maiden and inaugural edition of the  ”Fix It Show” took place on Saturday 21st of April 2012 at Holiday Inn Resort, Seaside town of Limbe. The highly anticipated ”Fix It Show” thrived to build a well deserved grandeur , glamour and allure , uniting a plethora of fashion designers/stylists, models, artists, filmmakers, actors , comedians, media houses and stakeholders across Cameroon in one arena.  The event opened its curtain at 3Pm with a chic Red Carpet moment , embellished by a playlist of sizzling Cameroonian urban music.

We got impressed with what we saw on the Red Carpet as  some artists, models and film makers rocked it all , clad in pieces crafted by budding Cameroonian designers like Mesanga Clothing , Afroshic,Afriq Unique, Aablahsd and Motif by Moh . NexDim spotted celebrities ! Mr ”Fix It” himself Sama Ndango, Pride Achu, Agbor Gilbert, Neba Lawrence,  Bright Phase, Steveslil, Mrs Oben, Queenta Eyong Ashu, Dr Sley, Eka Christa, Tony Nobody, Ngwane Hansel, Melcube, Stanley E.N.O.W, West Don, Eric Ngomni, YA Squad , Selambi Belinda, Big Mami Agatha, Fredash Models, Mesanga models, Motif By Moh models and other entertainers  all evidently displaying a sterling and sassy taste of fashion on the Red Carpet . If you were n’t sophisticated and classy, then ”Fix It Show” was n’t the right arena for you.  Paparazzi went wild !

Mofor Clementine (MC Show by Springboard), Ntoko Media, Hi TV, TopNotch Mag and STV 1 caught a glimpse of every sequence of what went down at the Red Carpet with their cameras. Simply fabolous !

After rocking the Red Carpet with an avalanche of fashionable and decent outfits, attention was driven to the stage where the tempo augmented.

The audience was thrilled by electrifying performances by Dr Sley (Ghetto Queen), Black LM, Steveslil (Panjo), Jerry (comedy), West Don (Ajebota), Stanley E.N.O.W (Bayangi juju), Magasco from Mumak and Bright Phase . The pomp , pageantry and fascination was quite impressive. Apart from music interludes, the run-way got busy with a massive exhibition of appealing clothing collections by Mesanga Clothing, Motif by Moh, Aablashd, Afriq Unique and Afroshic Clothing.

Ace journalist Nyoh Moses sensitized the audience with a talk on the role of the media in the promotion of entertainment, while MUMAK executive Jules Nya threw light on quality output in the industry, artist branding and professionnalism. The entertainment industry now seems to have had a  spontaneous stir and flair with such an initiative by Sama Ndango .

NexDim Empire cliched a ”Fix It” Award for Best Media Promoter, CUMA for Best Music Promoter, Fredash Modeling Agency for Best Fashion Promoter, Agbor Gilbert for Best Movie promoter and Da Cobra House for Best Comedy Promoter. Top notch music producer, Emil Ngumbah ‘s regal dignity and Agbor  Gilbert ‘s acumen in the entertainment industry was recognized as they were inducted into the ‘Fix It’ Hall of Fame. Colonel Dickson who has been making frantic efforts to promote entertainment grapped  an award for Best Entertainment promoter.

The event took place in the presence of dignitories like the Nigerian Consul General of South West and Littoral , President of Nigerian Cinematophers Guild  NG1 , CEO of Blaxity Tony Nobody and many more.

According to the organizers Sama Ndango and Pride Achu , the event shall be held quarterly. Brace yourselves for subsquent editions of the event.

Let’s be sincere with each other because although the truth hurts it is indispensable; most of all the down -and- trying as well as the up -and- coming Cameroonian musicians have no idea what music is all about yet they want to stand in front of crowds and entertain. It’s no fault of theirs and they shouldn’t be ashamed of their handicap; we live in a country where not much thought and worth is given to art forms like music so those with music dreams can only count on themselves to get to their destination. But the problem is that music in its present -day configuration needs far more than passion, desire or dreams to be handled brilliantly. Simply put, to be a musician today you must master basics like learning to play an instrument, choosing a style, negotiating  a deal and much more. Even when you can dabble or use  beatmaking  software to produce your own songs, what do you do when you must play live? You cannot be the artist, manager, stylist and more simultaneously. This reality equally concerns filmmakers. The Cameroonian filmmaking “industry” (I don’t think we have an industry yet) is littered with people who have always wanted to be either in front of  or behind the camera. But you cannot make a film just by standing in front of or behind a camera. You need to understand lighting, editing, shots, and more. We have already said we live in a society where the arts aren’t held in high esteem so what must we do?  Although, schools for art aren’t common, people with these aptitudes are. Go close to someone who can play a guitar,piano or something and learn. Or why not go online. They are free videos from which you can learn. But please, if you’ve always dreamt of being a star, don’t think of how passionate you are, rather think of how much learning you are supposed to do because in entertainment passion isn’t enough. It can be if you want to remain mediocre. Hope you disagree. Lol

The trailer of the new Kang Quintus film “Critical point” is now available. It was released worldwide yesterday April 4. The film was shot in locations in Belgium and Holland. After premieres slated for Germany, Holland and the U.S.A , it will be released this month. The film features makossa star Samy Diko and Ghanian actor Samuel  Ruffy Quansah. After scriptwriting and lead roles in various films, the Belgium- based filmmaker has obviously taken his passion for movies to the next level. While waiting for the film proper,watch this trailer for an idea of how he has managed that transition from in front to behind the camera.

Let’s get one thing straight right away:in a social-cultural setting like ours where art has been left  to its own devices, every work of art ,no matter its level of mediocrity, deserves praise for the effort. However,we cannot always blame the lack of support for the low-quality of our films because some countries share our fate but produce far better films. Now, let’s come to the crux of our matter here. It is always interesting to hear people trying to label the “Cameroonian film industry” -although it is still to be proven whether we even have a film joint,not to talk of sector or ,indulge my temerity, industry. With this fallacy in mind,some persons have tried and keep trying to convince the Cameroonian public that our filmmaking culture should be labelled Collywood while some  prefer Camwood. This forking visions have even provoked hard feelings amongst the major proponents of each school of thought(or should we say film). This name war should push one to wonder if the name is any significant? Aren’t they missing the point and won’t they be doing more good for the “industry” by making good films rather than trying to look for a name. The fuss about naming the film making activity in Cameroon is another manifestation of the bad copycat instincts of some. Since we have Hollywood, Bollywoood and woh Nollywood next door, there must be Collywood or Camwood. Unfortunately for these  name addicts, bearing the  wood suffix  doesn’t enrich  the film making culture in any way. South Africa is the new film making hub in Africa but we don’t here of Sallywood. This mad desire to name the Cameroonian film making culture seems like the worry of some attention-deficient videographers . By the way,when they say Collywood or Camwood are they talking about filmmaking in the entire country or just in the English speaking parts? The best name we can  give our “industry” is good films. Nexdim: Hello Quin

Quin: Hello Sarah

Nexdim: In some few words how would you describe yourself?

Quin: Well before that I must say you guys at Nexdim are doing a very great job. Back to myself now am a film maker, I produce and direct movies and act too most of the time. I studied in the University of Buea then I did an M.A programme in Development Policy – CERIS Brussels, an MBA in the University of Antwerp and presently am studying a PhD programme.

Nexdim: From which part of Cameroon do you hail?

Quin: I hail from the North West region precisely from Wum.

Nexdim: When and how did u start your career as a filmmaker?

Quin: I got involved in film making back in 2008 when I was contacted by a very good friend Enah Johnscott (now director of Triangle of Tears), who was shooting his then movie. I did script analysis for him and  gradually I developed the passion to contribute in a way towards the advancement of the Cameroon movie industry.

Nexdim: Tell about your stay back then in Cameroon.

Quin: I got my Advanced level certificate from GHS Wum and that same year got admitted into the University of Buea, I graduated from the University of Buea with a B.Sc Accounting in 2009 and upon graduation i got admitted to study a Masters in Development policy at CERIS Brussels, then I left Cameroon.

Nexdim: Some of your works please.

Quin: In 2008 I served as the script writer of  ‘The Mad Crown‘  produced and directed by Enah Johnscott and in 2010 I assisted in the production of  ‘Shades’ with Titus Banyuh. 2011 I was the lead role actor and producer of  ‘The Strength of Cha Cha’, directed by Enow Florence and released that same year. As I left Cameroon, I have been the Director and Executive Producer of ‘Critical Point’ shot with locations in Belgium and Holland and due to be premiered in Belgium, Germany, Holland, Cameroon, the UK and the USA,will be released in April 2012 and it features Samy Diko and Ghanaian actor Samuel Ruffy Quansah. I also lead roled in the movie “Confused Bachelors”, it is  produced and directed by Simon Timah, shot with locations in Holland and Belgium and its dued to be released in June 2012.

Nexdim: What can you say about movie making in Cameroon?

Quin: Fufu and Eru

i graduated with a M.A in Development Policy from CERIS in 2010 and got admitted for an MBA specialization in Accounting at the University of Antwerp Belgium that same year graduated at the University of Antwerp in september 2011, and gain admission into a PhD in accounting immidiately so i now study a PhD

Fans of the Canal 2 hit T.V series “Coup de balai plus”  and Cameroonians alike will surely be devastated. Lauraine Ottou, the sharp-witted star of their favourite  soap is no more. The talented actress passed away recently at the the Yaounde central hospital after a breif illness. Her untimely death is sure going to be a blow especially for her co-stars of the hit series with whom she had been working. Our hearts and minds go out to her family and acquaintances at this very trying moment as we pray her soul rest in perfect peace.

Nexdim Empire caught up with the CEO of Ngwana Films Production, Eddie Goffi Ngwana in his studio at Krammar Avenue in Kumba and decided to help you discover him just after the release of his new traditional movie ‘The Beadsmaker’. Actually, we had to discover Eddie is a camera person, does video production,takes care of lightings and is also a film maker.

Nexdim: So tell the world about yourself

ED: Well, talking about me I come from a royal family- the Ngwana’s family. My name is Edmund Goffi Nwana but i like to be called Eddie Goffi.

Nexdim: What is NFP (Ngwana films production) all about?

Eddie: NFP started 9years ago that’s in 2003, I had the drive to start something like a production house and actually I had my very first in 2007 titled ‘Venerated Tradition’. The movie was written by me and right now it is an African Magic production since it was bought. And the one thing I so very much enjoyed about the movie is that it got me two very special awards- Best Costume and Best Locations in the ‘La Nuit de Court Metrage’ award ceremony and Best Actress and Best Costume too in Ace Award that took place at Palais des congres Yaounde.

Nexdim: Some of your works please

Eddie: I have a serial production which came after Venerated Tradition in 2010, it is called ‘Yanore N’a Ngwe’ meaning ‘Son of the lion’. I also have ‘Bloody Chase’ and the newly released ‘Beadsmaker’ which will be launched officially next week.

Nexdim: If you were to tell who in the movie industry inspires you most starting from Cameroon, Africa and the world, who will it be?

Eddie: In Cameroon I’d say Agbor Gilbert (Befor the Sun Rise), in Africa- Teco Benson, chidi Chikere and Emeka Ike and in the world – Peter D Marshal and Stephen Spilberg.

Nexdim: How can you assess the industry in Cameroon?

Eddie:   Cameroon comes third after Nigeria and Ghana. We have some very hardworking film makers am talking about people like  Agbor Steve, Neba Lawrence, penjo,musing Deric and many more. In no time we will stand the best of time, i mean with our virgin stories we are sure to, remember we are talking of a country with about 251 tribes and the ore the tribes, the more stories we have to tell.

Nexdim: What do you think can be done to ameliorate or make a positive change in the industry?

Eddie:   First is sponsorship and the second is the training of our actors and entire crew, then we need enough collaboration and determination amongst ourselves. They should be committed to their commitment because all these things are very essential and i make sure myself that they are put into practice in my production house.

Nexdim: Are you married?

Eddie: No, most of my girls run away from me as aresult of the nature of my work.

Nexdim: What do you like eating most?

Eddie: Corn fufu and kati kati

Ngwana Films Productions is a Kumba based operating film and video production house with Ngwana Eddie Goffi as its CEO, long time producer and filmmaker.

‘The Beads Maker‘ is one of his numerous much time invested works done released some few days back. The Cameroonian culture – filled traditional movie was  directed by Eddie Goffi himself  and  published by Tah Terence of the Don Studio and Tah Films Production of Kumba.
