The wait is finally over. The much-anticipated Lotus SP album from Cameroonian rap artist Melcube has finally dropped. The artist made this known via his facebook page. Now that the album is finally available, critics and fans alike will get a chance to judge for themselves whether the Buea-based hiphop artist is worth platinum or not. Let’s remember that in a recent chat with nexdimempire.com, Melcube suggested that this album was his best work yet. Here she goes again. Cameroonian soul princess Danielle Makedah Eog has offered connaisseurs and fans of soul another chance at musical delight. “Hiphop nation” is her latest. As usual, it is a brilliant piece of soul music with a sassy hint of hiphop. Like the virtuoso that she is, she keeps it simple yet classy. This song triggers thoughts of other soul greats like Erykay Badu and Musiq Soulchild. Despite her artistic brilliance, Danielle Eog is yet to get widespread recognition here in Cameroon given soul’s newcomer status in the mainstream Cameroonian music landscape. Pending a massive hit that will make her and soul known to the wider public, she is, in my humble, destined for the world music scene where she will surely soar. Enjoy this track.
Just Wôan is one of Cameroon’s finest uprising stars whose vocal dynamics , dexterity and charisma are absolutely enthusing and dazzling . Yea ! I watched him sing live today on ”Canal Martin” and wowed . His debut album ”Des Reines” will certainly captivate attention across Cameroon and the world. The Afro-soul and R&B sensation shall offer a free album launch concert today 8 pm, at American Graffiti, Akwa, Douala. Just Woan shall be accompanied by percussionist Roddy Ekwa of Macase , bassist Herve Mboma and traditional guitarist , Ali Kaka. Just Woan has been booked to perform at the Francofolies in Montreal, Canada in June and later in Paris.

The recently-created hiphop cabaret that started in Yaounde seems to be well on track. Hardly have the curtains fallen on the opening edition that a second date has already been set. On May 5, the second night of the hiphop cabaret will take place at montée Zoe near Acropole in Yaounde. A litany of artists have already been lined up to strut their stuff on that day. Amongst them we have guys like Habib du Bled and Xzafrane. Hiphop lovers are called upon to attend.
Despite the crowd one finds on the music scene, some artists just have something unique that makes people pay attention. One of such unique artists is Rough Kumbaboy a.k.a BabyAfrica. Born in Kumba – Cameroon July 1986, he travelled to the U.K In October 1999 where he was immediately drawn to Grime music -a musical genre that started in London. After a few years, Rough Kumbaboy joined a group called J.P.S consisting of himself and two Nigerians. Together ,they recorded an album titled HOME & AWAY in 2008. In 2009, they were nominated as best group during the annual Young Achievers’ Award held in the U.K. In 2010, the group split and Rough Kumbaboy went solo; recording a couple of unreleased rap songs. With his talent and musical vision, he has come up with a special musical offering known as Bendskin rap. It has resonated deeply with Cameroonians and Africans in general and this has enabled the artist to be invited to perform live in events held all over Europe and in Cameroon. Rough Kumbaboy was nominated in the best rap and best originality category during the CUMA awards held in Cameroon. Rough Kumbaboy will be performing live in Belgium on the May 20th in an event organised by the Cameroonian community in Brussels. With such a rich and exciting journey, what more can one say? The Cameroonian hiphop scene is alive with artists making hits and others preparing their hits. One of those who is putting together a cocktail of hits and club-bangers for fans is Melcube. As an artist and performer, the guy has shown his worth in more ways than one. In the following chat with Nexdim’s Sarah, the artist opens up about his life and music.
Nexdimempire.com: Hello Melcube, how are you doing?
Melcube: Awesome! I couldn’t feel any better.
Nexdimempire.com: Can see you’ve been doing a lot of work on your album Lotus SP, so how is it coming along?
Melcube: Strong! I mean, in a few weeks from now the album will be available on the market. What much more can I wish for? It’s been a lot putting this together; I think it’s time for the public to get blown away.
Nexdimempire.com: What words would you use to describe Lotus SP to all those out there?
Melcube: Great piece of art! That’s how I like to look at it. Far from what most artists try to do around here, Lotus SP is different.
Nexdimempire.com: Looking at the Cameroonian music scene in particular and its entertainment industry in general, how far do you actually see yourself and Lotus SP especially?
Melcube: I know just how things are around here, but like my friend Otto would say, “If you can’t fix it don’t complain”. That’s why I will only tell you that if I get this right, I will be the first ever successful Hip Hop artist from Cameroon, to open the doors for others to walk through. And for LOTUS, the best Hip Hop album ever to drop in Kamer. Thank You!
Nexdimempire.com: From that point if you’re given an ultimate chance to make a remarkable change what would that be?
Melcube: I will do all I can to reform the music industry as much as I can by first opening up a label (MMMG) to help spring up talented unsigned artist. This way, people with musical skills will be able to make a living doing what they do best.
Nexdimempire.com: Speaking of MMMG, tell us more about it?
Melcube: MMMG or Tripple MG as I like to call it is a short form for Mic Maniacs Music Group. This is a label I intend to open up to help bring to light talented people from Cameroon. Not yet in action but soon to be. You just stay tuned.
Nexdiempire.com: Besides music what else are you into?
Melcube: For now, all I do is music. But in the short while, I will be putting on my entrepreneur suit. I think I have a responsibility to proof to the public that there is a lot of potentials in here. And that’s what I’m a do.
Nexdimempire.com: How do you cope with managing?
Melcube: It has not been easy, but I have been receiving a lot of help from my close friends and family. And I want to use this opportunity to say thanks to all those who have been with me till now. The journey is not over, but we are almost there. Believe me.
Nexdimempire.com: Are you married?
Melcube: Nope! I am as single as the letter “I”
Nexdimempire.com: Learnt you studied law in the University of Buea, how come you into music now?
Melcube: Well emm, how do I explain that. I think if you have a gift, it stays with you no matter what you do or where you go. I guess that’s what happened to me.
Nexdimempire.com: Who in the music world inspires you the most in your life and why?
Melcube: At this time, I will go with Lil Wayne. Not because he can say anything in his rap and get away with it but because he has successfully put together a team which for the moment is totally unbeatable and yes, he is the only one who can wear green astronaut shoes and make them look cool on TV. I respect that.
Nexdimempire.com: You’ve given out Lotus SP ,what next should we be expecting from you and maybe when?
Melcube: Lotus SP is what I will like to term the beginning of “GOOD MUSIC”. By December this year and for the rest of my time here on earth, expect more good stuff from me. Believe that.

A new prodigy has joined the evergrowing ranks of Cameroonian hiphop. Magasco as he is known has just dropped his first official release entitiled “Line loba“. The track is off his upcoming ” Bamenda Boi” lp jointly produced by Mumak/Scratch Records. Adah dropped a teaser of his new hit ”Yokoko” which premiered here . The ”Nyango” sultry crooner who is currently on a promotional tour in Cameroon has finally released the full version of the highly anticipated video . If you doubt the prowess of Cameroonian urban artists, this is just a proof of hard work and credibility. The video has interesting cameo appearances like Ruth Nkwenti, Diana ‘Blackpearl ‘ Tambe , Romero, and many more. It’s mouth-watering !. Cameroonian artists are learning to team up in order to make the splash much more loud. Masta Ben and “Nyango” boy Adah have collaborated on a track entitled ” J’irai jusqu’au bout”. The song is a call to perseverance and stamina in the face of all odds. Although the song isn’t a hit just yet, the positive message it broadcasts can endear it to some people.
